ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Surfing Tasmania invites you to the Women in Waves event day in Bicheno on 30th November 2024. It is a unique event designed to empower, inspire, and connect women and girls of all skill levels through the joy of surfing. Whether you’re a seasoned surfer or a beginner looking to catch your first wave, this event allows women and girls to come together, build confidence in the ocean, and learn new skills in a supportive environment.
The day will combine practical surf sessions with a special focus on ocean literacy, and an empowering keynote speaker session with World Tour legend Serena Brooke.

Bicheno, Tasmania – Set against the beautiful coastline, Bicheno provides optimal surf visibility for all skill levels. With its stunning scenery and consistent breaks, this location offers the perfect backdrop for a memorable day in the waves.
EVENT SCHEDULE
Ocean Literacy Session
Presented by the Resilience Lab and Bicheno Surf Life Saving Club, this session will focus on understanding the ocean’s dynamics, safety tips, and how to build confidence in the water.
Surf Session
Partnering with Australia’s number one surf school, Coastrider Surf Academy, the surf session will cater to all skill levels and will include professional instruction, providing all the tools necessary to catch your first wave or improve your technique.
Keynote Speaker – Serena Brooke
Serena spent fourteen years on the professional surfing tour, achieving significant success, including reaching the World Number One Ranking in 2001. With a remarkable career that includes two #2 World Championship Tour rankings, a Billabong Pro Australia title, and countless contributions to the evolution of women’s surfing, Serena has paved the way for future generations of female surfers. She now brings her passion for the sport, her commitment to empowering women, and her experience as a coach, mentor, and charity founder to inspire the next wave of women in ocean sports.
