Origins
Tasmania has the reputation of the coolest and cleanest water in Australia, we also have some of the worlds most challenging, isolated and uncrowded waves along our three major coastlines.
In 2019/20 Surfing Tasmania provides the competition framework for the sport of surfing in Tasmania, and assists with the organisation and running of other selected club and national events. We have 6 affiliated Boardrider Clubs and 6 commercial Surf Schools state wide.
We produce State Champions in all age divisions who will represent Tasmania at the Grommet Titles, Open Surf masters and National Longboard, Bodyboard and SUP Titles. Our events cater from the under 12’s to the Legends who must be over 55 to compete, in longboard, bodyboard, shortboard and SUP stand up paddle board disciplines.
Tassie events are made of great weekends away surfing in places like Bruny Island, Scamander, Bicheno, Tasman Peninsula, Devonport and Marrawah – truly unique locations, with great camaraderie. You’ll need to pack clothing for all weathers, as well as be prepared to not stay in touch with your mobile phone – reception can be dodgy in many areas of the State. Besides, you’ll be too busy soaking up the natural beauty of Tassie to worry too much about the ‘outside world’!
Surfing Tasmania has a strong interest in preservation of and access to our coastlines. We liaise with other ocean interest and user groups to help preserve and protect Tasmania’s unspoiled ocean environments for all to enjoy now and into the future.
