2020 Goodstone Phantom Coast Classic . A Tale of two NW rivers and two Johannesens.
The 2020 Goodstone Phantom Classic proved to be a great day around Devenport with a classic NW gale producing some great 1 to 2.5 metre waves at the ‘River’ and also the mouth of the Don River over a sandback bordered by challenging rocks and a heavy current. These conditions were standard stuff for locals but southerners took time to adjust to finding the often bouncy take off spots.
The day started mid morning at a heavy local spot rarely surfed by anyone other than locals, the Don River mouth. Action then moved to the traditional Mersey River around midday as the dropping tide affected conditions.Standout surfers throughout the day were Co Comp Directors Jy Johanesen and Matt Gaby, Jy’s brother Luke, Damon Hodge, Noah Hassett, George vander Kelen and Ruby Stokely. Thanks to Head Judge Michael Schmidt and his judging panel.
Many thanks to NWBR, STAS and SABR (catering trailer food and drinks) for putting on a memorable event supported by great sponsors:
