HOBART/TASMANIA (Thursday,June 20th, 2024): The Hobart greater region will play host to the 2024 Red Herring Surf Tasmanian Schools Surfing Championships on Monday September 23rd this year.
Tasmania’s best school team surfers are set to contest the one day event to book their place in the state squad to compete Under 16 and Under 19 MR Shield Junior Men’s and Women’s divisions in November at the Australian Junior Surfing Titles, hosted by Wollongong later in the year.
Sixteen school teams contested last year’s event with the likes of MacKillop Catholic College, St Mary’s College, Devonport’s Don College and Marist College all set to field strong two-student teams again in 2024.
Surfing Tasmania Event Manager Luke Johanessen was looking forward to seeing the team lists come in when entries open in July.
“The Red Herring Surf Tasmanian Schools Surfing Championships should be a cracker this year. We expect to attract greater numbers having the event so close to Hobart this year. Locations like South Arm, Clifton Beach and even Eaglehawk Neck will be on our radar as potential venues once we can forecast conditions closer to the day,” said Johannesen.
Event entry opening dates will be announced via Surfing Tasmania’s social media channels in the coming weeks.
