Tasmania’s best young surfers hit the water at Clifton Beach on Monday, 25 May for the 2026 Tasmanian Schools Surfing Championships presented by Red Herring Surf.
Students from across the state competed for the opportunity to represent Tasmania at the 2026 Australian Junior Surfing Nationals, set to be held in Western Australia later this year.
Despite small conditions, competitors showcased impressive talent and determination throughout the day, with strong performances across both individual and school team divisions.
The Hutchins School claimed the Under 19 Boys MR Shield, while Mackillop College enjoyed a dominant event, taking out the Under 19 Girls MR Shield along with both Under 16 MR Shield divisions.
Individual honours went to Charlie Gibson and Willow Direen in the Under 19 divisions, while Hudson Direen and Lola Reid secured wins in the Under 16 divisions.
Surfing Tasmania thanked all judges, officials, volunteers, teachers, parents and students for contributing to another successful championship event, along with presenting partner Red Herring Surf for their ongoing support.
Surfing Tasmania also acknowledged photographer Edie Lewis for capturing the day.
