HOBART/TASMANIA (Thursday, 1st December/2022): The best surfers in Tasmania will be out to take home their share in over $6000 cash PLUS prizes when the Red Herring Surf Pro-AM attracts mainland talent not seen on Tassie shores since the legendary Cold Water Classic nearly fifteen years ago.
With licence to roam in Tasmania’s South East region, possible locations include the likes of the South Arm Peninsula, Roaring Beach and Eaglehawk Neck just to name a few.
Surfing Tasmania’s newest event on the annual Calendar will include:
Open Men’s – 48 athletes
Open Women’s – 16 athletes
Junior Men’s – 16 athletes
Junior Women’s – 8 athletes
Event Manager Luke Johannesen said the event had generated plenty of excitement from local talent and interstate interest.
Johannesen said: ” The Red Herring Surf Pro AM is definitely the biggest event we have held in Tasmania for a long long time and has generated a nice buzz both locally and from interstate athletes. The prize money of $2000 for first in the Open Men’s and Women’s, $1000 in the Junior Men’s and Women’s not to mention the other prize giveaways we have on offer, really has helped with attracting the best quality surfers we can put in the draw.”
The Junior divisions are sure to be hotly contested with only sixteen Men’s and eight Women’s spots available. The quarter finals onwards will activate the women on women and man on man format, allowing athletes the best opportunity to excel.
Athletes entering the event must be a currently registered member of their state association (Surfing Australia’s Go Membership platform won’t allow an athlete to enter without current membership).
The Red Herring Surf Pro-Am is supported by Rip Curl, Yeti, JS Industries, FCS, Dragon Alliance and Surfing Tasmania.
