Women in Waves is a unique event designed to empower, inspire, and connect women and girls of all skill levels through the joy of surfing. Whether you’re a seasoned surfer or a beginner looking to catch your first wave, this event allows women and girls to come together, build confidence in the ocean, and learn new skills in a supportive environment.
The day will combine practical surf sessions with a special focus on ocean literacy, and an empowering panel session celebrating the voices and journeys of female surfers in Tasmania.
Our key speakers will share how surfing has shaped their lives—from career pathways and creative projects to unique experiences catching waves at home and across the globe. This session will explore the challenges and triumphs of being a woman in surfing, highlight the power of community, and showcase the diverse ways surfing can influence personal and professional growth. Designed to inspire female surfers of all levels, the conversation will also introduce opportunities for deeper involvement in the sport, including upskilling initiatives offered by Surfing Australia’s new RISE program.
Come along to celebrate women in waves, connect with community, and leave energized to carve your own path in and out of the water
Chair of Surfing Tasmania, Lara van den Berg said “The 2025 program builds on the success of our previous event at Turners Beach and Bicheno, and this time we’re excited to bring it to Clifton Beach and the Hobart surfing community. With ocean literacy sessions, surf coaching, healthy food, and the opportunity to hear from an empowering panel of speakers, this event is about more than just surfing – it’s about creating connections, fostering growth, and encouraging a healthy, active lifestyle for women and girls across Tasmania.”
