Winners Crowned As Clifton Beach Shines For Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps

Published on 30/10/2022

CLIFTON BEACH/TASMANIA (Sunday, 30th October/2022): After a week of terrible weather, Clifton Beach produced a picture perfect day for the country’s best frothing groms with 2-3ft crystal clear and clean waves on offer all day at the 2022 Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps Tasmanian event.

With a spot in the National Final on offer for the highest placed Tasmanian competitor in the Under 14 divisions, it was Marvin Freeman and Jesse Gardner winning themselves a seat on the plane to Northern NSW.

It was an impressive display from Taj Air who travelled with his family from Southern New South Wales to compete in the event. Air took out both the Under 14 and 16 Boys divisions with a great combination of modern surfing mixed with timeless flow and speed. Tassie’s own Marvin Freeman pushed Air all the way in the final to finish second in a great tussle. Freeman proving he has what it takes to stick it to the mainland athletes at the National Final.

All in all it was a great day of competitive yet fun surfing with all involved showing true sportsmanship. Both the Tasmanian and interstate kids showed quality attributes both in and out of the water with lots of handshakes and slaps on the back going around after heat finishes.

Marvin Freeman and Jesse Gardner are off to the National Final later this year
