2021 Southern Challenge in Memory of Paul Johannesen. Rd 3 of the RHS Open/Age State Championships.
The event got underway at Wedge in very good conditions for the first round and then relocated to South Clifton as the forecast change came through. A wonderful day for the Johannesen family with a range of waves and conditions from overhead peaking barrels to more down the line left and right banks at Clifton to finish the day. Presentations were held in the Clifton SLSC and continues well into the night. The great atmosphere that comes with this annual event is one that continues to draw a wider mix of competitive surfers.
Big wave legend Marti Paradisis cleaned up the $200 for his huge air. Expat Victorian Henry Hutchins took out the Open Mens and former world junior champ Dara Penfold held off talented Jemima Hutchins and Lizzy Stokely to claim the Open Womens.
