2024 Bruny Island Classic Looming As 2023/24 Championship Circuit Decider!

Hobart/Tasmania(Wednesday, June 5th/2024): Consistency has proven key to potential overall honours for Dustin Hollick on this year’s Tasmanian Surfing Championship Circuit as he prepares for the season finale this weekend at the 2024 Bruny Island Classic presented by Red Herring Surf.

Hollick has finished runner-up three times this year, at the Goodstone Group Phantom Coast Comp, Rip Curl West Coast Classic presented by Sea FM Burnie and the Quiksilver East Coast Classic. Only having his best three results count at season’s end means to improve his total, it’s only a win that will do the job over this coming long weekend on the Island.

“I honestly thought my days of winning Open State Titles were well behind me, but here i am with one leg of the circuit to go, out in front! There’s only one man that can beat me now i think and that’s Rudy Davis. Rudes is always tough to beat, but especially if the conditions are small and testing. Il be praying for waves!” said Hollick.

Meanwhile, on the Women’s side of the draw, it’s a similar tale with young Ava Carlton(Cremorne) also counting three second-place finishes in her total.

Park Beach young gun Cowan Duncan has a big lead in the Under 18 Boys division with two wins in the West and East Coast junior competitions, Sunny Hollick hot on his heels in second place with two second place finishes.

With a three day competition window at his disposal, Event Manager Luke Johannesen said he will wait until the last minute to make a call on the event scheduling.

“With a constantly changing forecast this week, we will have to wait and see until late Friday as to what we run on which days. So everyone will be over on the Island Friday night as we will make a call on who’s surfing first, probably early Saturday morning. The wind looks good to get us underway Saturday with two small swells combining to hopefully produce 2-3ft waves. Sunday looks a bit rough wind wise before Monday produces better conditions again, similar to Saturday.”

The 2024 Bruny Island Classic is proudly supported by Red Herring Surf, Woodhams Builders, Zambrero Rosny and Shoreline Plaza Stores, We are Feel Good Inc, Dometic, Tas Parks and Wildlife and Surfing Tasmania.
