2024 Quiksilver/Roxy East Coast Classic Set For A Start This Friday

Beaumaris/Tasmania( Tuesday, April 23rd/2024): Shelly Point and Dark Hollows shape as likely event sites as a favourable forecast looks set to attract Tasmania’s best to the region this weekend for the 2024 Quiksilver/Roxy East Coast Classic presented by Red Herring Surf and the Surfside Beaumaris.

When competition gets underway it will be former local and defending Champion Benn Richardson looking to emulate his efforts in 2023, banking valuable points in the race to be crowned Tasmania’s best in what is the third stop of the Tasmanian Championship Circuit.

“With Jy Johannesen away on mainland business, it’s a good opportunity for a few of us to bank some points this weekend. Not that we can’t beat him! Dustin Hollick will be trying to fly under the radar but we all know what he’s capable of,” said Richardson.

With Friday and Saturday looking the pick of the days, event organisers will look to run a large chunk of competition from early on the 26th. Surfing Tasmania officials are excited about the potential for good conditions.

“We’ve got good offshore wind conditions forecast for most of the day on both Friday and Saturday with a little South East swell around the one metre plus mark pushing fun waves our way hopefully, ” said Surfing Tasmania’s Event Manager Luke Johannesen.

” The swell is forecast to slowly fade Saturday afternoon at this stage so we will look to get plenty of surfing done Friday. This is always open to change of course but things look good at this early stage,” Johannesen ended with.

Defending Open Women’s Champion Dara Penfold will be unable to take her place in the draw this weekend, leaving the door wide open for the likes of Ava Carlton, Luca Brodribb, and Bo Ellis.
