MARRAWAH/TASMANIA (Tuesday/26th March/2024): A cracking forecast for this Easter long weekend’s Rip Curl West Coast Classic presented by SeaFM Burnie has both organisers and competitors primed for an exciting weekend of quality surfing at Marrawah in the state’s North West.

Six-time event winner and North West local Jy Johannesen says there’s something extra special about the history rich West Coast Classic and the region that hosts the famous event.

“Marrawah’s always been a pretty special place to me. I’ve been going up there a long time and it was always a such a good family trip. So many of Tasmania’s iconic names have won the West Coast Classic, as a grom and an adult it’s always the one you want to win. The forecast looks amazing so it should be one for the books this weekend for the Easter Long weekend,” said Johannesen.

Friday’s forecast is for light offshore winds and a small to medium sized south west swell before a potential increase in size for Saturday as the swell swell gains in strength. The favourable winds continue in the current forecast for Saturday in the light offshore direction for breaks such as Lighthouse Beach.

Surfing Tasmania is stoked to welcome Sea FM Burnie (101.7) as the presenting rights partner of the event. Sea FM Burnie is  Tasmania’s North West leading radio station and are long-term supporters of community and sport across the region. Sea FM is committed to their mission statement “Leaders in Local” by creating major-scale events for the community and investing in others, to ensure the best opportunities for Tasmanians.
