2024 Tasmanian Schools Surfing Championships Presented by Red Herring Surf Run & Won At Clifton Beach Today

HOBART/TASMANIA(September 23rd/2024): Clifton Beach played host to nearly fifty of Tasmania’s best school-age surfers today as spots for the State Team were up for grabs via the Tasmanian Schools Surfing Championships presented by Red Herring.

Clean conditions and good banks at South Clifton allowed Girls and Boys teams of two to put their best foot forward in the quest to represent Tasmania at this year’s Australian Junior Surfing Titles in Woolongong come November this year in the legendary ‘MR Shield’ division.

Tasmania’s State Junior Surfing Coach Dustin Hollick spent the day giving his knowledge and advice to any surfer who wanted it. He was impressed with the quality of surfing and said the size was a factor for lots of kids.

” There was no shortage of size today, I’d say there were six-foot sets (well overhead) at stages during the day and all the kids had a really good crack in challenging conditions. I was happy with the level of surfing going down and this year’s team heading for the Australian Junior Surfing Titles is looking stronger than ever,” said Hollick.

In the Under 19 Boy’s MR Shield Final it was Oska Hayes from Clarence High School impressing the judges, posting the highest single wave score of 6.50 points whilst in the Under 19 Girl’s MR Shield Final, Rosny College’s Current State Champion Sienna Lawrence posted and excellent single wave score of 8.00 points to top score for the division.
