2025 Southern Beaches Junior Run & Won On A Glorious Mother’s Day At Park Beach

Published on 12/05/2025

PARK BEACH/TASMANIA (Monday May 12th/2025): Contestants had good waves on tap all day for the Southern Beaches Junior presented by Park Beach Boardriders for Mother’s Day 2025, with nearly fifty of the state’s best young and up-and-coming surfers enjoying the groomed conditions on offer at Park Beach from the first hooter yesterday.

In the Under 18 Boys Division, local shredder Cowan Duncan performed at a high level all day to be just pipped at the post by South Arm Boardriders young gun Duke Armstrong, whose consistency proved the difference in the Final, beating Duncan (9.97 points to 9.93 points). If Duncan had scored a backup wave, the story would have been different, but that’s surfing.  Less than two points separated the final four, with Tully Woodberry (9.46 points) and Charlie Gibson (8.84 points) performing extremely well to keep the two front runners on their toes.

Claire McBride started the Under 18 Girls final with what turned out to be the highest score of the exchange, laying down a solid score of 6.43 points. She then backed herself up with a 3.83-point ride to make life hard for her combatants in Jessica Gardner (6.83 point heat total), Millie Beach (3.17 point heat total) and Poppy Woodberry with just the one wave ridden (1.13 points).

Tully Woodberry was too good in the Under 16 Boys Division, taking out the final ( 12.13 point heat total), whilst in the Under 14 Boys, Hudson Direen took the biscuits.
