BRUNY ISLAND/TASMANIA (Thursday,16th February,2023): This weekend’s Bruny Island Classic is set to be a cracker with the forecast looking as good as it has ever been in the event’s history.
Surfing Tasmania Events Manager Luke Johannesen expects favourable winds and solid waves to make for a memorable two days of competition at Cloudy Bay this Saturday and Sunday ( February 18th/19th).
“Saturday is looking like producing head high or bigger waves with offshore wind all day whilst Sunday looks potentially pumping with well overhead surf in the 2-3 metres range and again offshore winds. We are excited to host the Bruny Island Classic again in 2023,” said Johannesen.
With sixty two entries confirmed already, it is the biggest field of competitors in the event’s history, a good sign that Surfing in Tasmania is booming!
Big names Rudy Davis, Hamish Renwick, Marty Paradisis, Matt Kennedy, Sienna Lawrence and Noah Hassett are all notable names on the entry list thus far.
Hassett, who is set to jet out after the event for his first season in Hawaii was excited to see how good the surf might get by finals day on Sunday.
“It would be nice to see big clean walls for finals day. There’s a bunch of really good surfers in the draw, so to see them all ripping in good waves would be great. I hope Cloudy lives up to the forecast!” said Hassett.
