North Haven/NSW (August 8th/2024): Tasmania’s Dustin Hollick officially became Australia’s best Over 45 Male surfer after putting on a clinical display of modern power surfing at the Hyundai High Performance Centre Australian Surf Championships in North Haven just south of Port Macquarie.

The man from Four Mile Beach on the East Coast was the surfer to beat in both the Over 40 and 45 Men’s divisions the entire event, winning every one of his heats, making both Finals as the favourite.

He didn’t have his best heat in the 40’s Final, finishing third before recovering in style to win the Over 45’s with a 15.66 point total. Hollick is Tasmania’s first shortboard Champion since 90’s Junior prodigy Dara Penfold.

“I am pumped to bring a national title home to Tasmania. The competition was really strong up here in Port Macquarie and i enjoyed being pushed to produce my best surfing to win the Over 45’s. It would have been nice to take out the 40’s as well but there’s always next year,” said Hollick.

Sandford’s Jo Goldfinch also had a strong campaign, making the Over 50 Women’s Final and finishing 4th in the country, a huge achievement in itself.

Fellow Tasmanians John Gregory and Hamish Renwick also represented the state and put in good performances in the Over 55 Men and Open Men’s divisions.
