Women in Waves Day : Empowering Women in the Water this Saturday!

BICHENO/TASMANIA(October 27th/2024): This Saturday, Surfing Tasmania’s Women in Waves Day will make a splash in Bicheno, bringing together girls and women of all ages and competencies for an inspiring day of surfing, ocean education, and empowerment.

The event’s highlight is the keynote address and panel discussion led by Serena Brooke former WSL World Title runner-up and recently crowned International Surfing Association Women’s Masters Silver Medalist. Serena will share insights from her illustrious career and her passion for mentoring and supporting women in surfing.


“I want to inspire girls and women of all ages to get out there and have a go and share the experience of how fun surfing can be,” Brooke said. “It will be a fantastic day to build confidence and make new friends, let’s bring on the fun!”

Media are asked to meet at Redbill at 12:30 pm where Serena will be available to speak to the media at approximately 1:00 pm.


Participants will enjoy a full day of activities designed to build confidence in and out of the water:

    •    Ocean Literacy Information Session – Facilitated by The Resilience Lab, covering essential skills like reading beach conditions and safe surf practices.

    •    Surf Coaching – Australia’s #1 surf school, Coastrider Surf Academy, and Surfing Tasmania coaches (including female instructors) will provide guidance tailored to all skill levels.

    •    Healthy Lunch and Refreshments – A delicious spread to fuel the fun.

    •    Keynote & Panel Discussion – Serena Brooke will engage participants with stories from her surfing journey and insights on building resilience, confidence, and leadership.

The event underscores Surfing Tasmania’s commitment to fostering an inclusive surfing community, accessible to all women, regardless of experience.
