Surfing Tasmania is pleased to announce the appointment of Jonathon (Jono) Mereszka as our new Chief Executive Officer.
Jono brings almost three decades of experience within Tasmania’s surfing industry and community, along with extensive experience in business management, leadership, events and athlete development.
For the past 17 years, Jono has owned and operated Coastrider Surf Academy, building the business from the ground up and leading and mentoring more than 50 staff.
Coastrider was named Surfing Australia’s National Surf School of the Year in 2023 and has become one of Australia’s leading deliverers of the SURFGROMS junior development program.
Jono also has a longstanding connection with Surfing Tasmania, including previous involvement as a Board member and event judge, and brings strong relationships across Tasmania’s surfing community.
Surfing Tasmania Chair Lara van den Berg said the Board was excited about what Jono would bring to the organisation.
“Jono brings a great combination of leadership and business experience, a genuine understanding of our surfing community and, importantly, a real passion for the sport.”
“As we move into our next chapter, the Board was looking for someone who could build strong relationships across our clubs, participants, partners and Surfing Australia while continuing to grow participation, strengthen our events and support surfing pathways across Tasmania.”
“Jono knows our community incredibly well and has spent much of his career developing people and creating opportunities through surfing. We’re really excited to have him leading Surfing Tasmania.”
For Jono, the appointment is also an opportunity to give back to a sport and community that has played such an important part in his life.
“I’m really excited to take on the role and work with the Board, our clubs, Surfing Australia, partners and the wider Tasmanian surfing community.”
“Surfing has given me so much over the years, and I’m looking forward to giving back and helping Surfing Tasmania continue to grow and create opportunities for people to be involved in the sport.”
Please join us in welcoming Jono to the roll.
