CLIFTON BEACH/TASMANIA (Saturday,19th November/2022): Clifton Beach produced the goods yet again today as the state’s best young surfers kicked off their campaigns in this year’s Woolworths Tasmanian State Junior Surfing Titles series.
Mid-Clifton Beach’s banks made a great venue for Under 12’s through to Under 18’s as 1-2ft peeling swell offered scoring potential throughout the morning. Favourable off-shore/cross-shore winds kept the wave faces clean for the majority of the event, allowing 2-3 manoeuvres on most set waves before lunch.
Unfortunately the wind didn’t hold off for the entire contest with tricky onshore conditions making things interesting for the final heats of the afternoon. Despite the deteriorating conditions there was plenty of great surfing for the judging panel to reward.
Under 18 Boy’s Winner Noah Hassett highlighted the shifting level of surfing at today’s event, saying – ” There was some really good surfing today across all the age groups so congrats to everyone and thanks for coming down to support us all. A big thanks to Surfing Tasmania for putting the event on.”
It was a family affair in the Under 12 parent assist division with Alby and Sunny Clemow battling it out for bragging rights for the next few months at least.
