THE PHANTOM FIRES!

Published on 08/09/2021

The 2021 Goodstone Phantom Coast Classic was held recently in 2-4ft conditions at the Mersey River in testing gale force wind and rain, certainly a very unique event to kick off the RHS Surfing Tasmania State Championship calendar of events for the season.

A big congratulations to Kyle Cooper taking out the Open Men’s division showcasing some massive manoeuvres and full rail to rail speed and flow. Kyle narrowly defeated Event Director Jy Johannesen with Rudy Davis claiming third spot.

The Over 35 Men had a talented field of competitors, but local Mersey River lord Richard Knox claimed the title over Finn Whittla and Richard Ramsden in third position.

Nellie Strickland took out the Open Women’s.

Big shout out and thanks to the set up and pack up crew, head judge Michael Schmidt and his panel of Judges, Luke and Eddie for tallying, Contest Director Jy Johannesen, the NWBR work crew, Surfing Tasmania, and event sponsors, Goodstone Group, Red Herring Surf, Buttons Brewing, Terry White Pharmacy Fourways, SIN Eyewear, ION Surf, Red Bull for making it a successful event and one that will grow in coming years.

Also Thanks to Platter and Pop for the best lunch time spread any Surfing Tasmania event has seen and Wild One Catering for fuelling the competitors, judges and spectators with the best Coffee!.
