The Women in Waves Day Secure For The Next Two Years After Tasmanian Government Grant Success

Published on 09/05/2023

HOBART/TASMANIA(May 9th ,2023): Surfing Tasmania is pleased to be able to announce our Women in Waves Day event is now secure for the next two years thanks to a major grant from the Tasmanian Government.

Surfing Tasmania was one of twenty-six successful Healthy Tasmania grant recipients chosen from one hundred submissions from health and community organisations.

Surfing Tasmania is one of only two sporting organisations to receive grants.

The grant confirms Women in Waves as a show case for breaking down the barriers for girls and women to take up surfing and awareness of the health and well-being benefits from surfing.

Surfing Tasmania will work with other community organisations to strengthen ways the event can be inclusive to all Tasmanians.

The 2024 Women in Waves event information will be included on Surfing Tasmania’s platforms towards the end of 2023.

Clifton Beach was packed on Saturday 14th January for the 2023 Women in Waves Day with the legendary Seven-Time World Champion Layne Beachley surfing with a stoked group of Women and girls who alternated between yoga sessions on the sand and surf lessons with Coastrider Surf School and Layne Beachley in the water.
