Hobart/Tasmania( Thursday, October 19th/2023): With a large east coast swell forecast with unfavourable weather, event organisers are looking far and wide for potential venues for this weekend’s Hyundai Australian Boardriders Battle State Qualifier.
“We are going to wait until as late as Saturday afternoon to make a call on location as the forecast is constantly changing at this stage. It’s all about putting the clubs in the best waves possible on the Sunday. Fingers crossed the bad weather moves offshore or down the coast and we get pumping waves!” said Surfing Tasmania Co-Event Manager Luke Johannesen.
South Arm BRC, North West BRC and Park Beach Boardriders are set to battle it out for the right to contest the Hyundai Australian Boardriders Battle Grand Final at Burleigh Heads in 2024.
With two spots rather than one up for grabs on the Gold Coast, the clubs will be fielding their strongest possible teams.
Park Beach will likely pen names like Tyler Holmer-Cross and young gun Cowan Duncan whilst South Arm will aim to confirm former World Junior Champion Dara Penfold as their female surfer.
North West Boardriders will bring experience and runs on the board with current Open Men’s State Champion Jy Johannesen set to spearhead a strong team.
A Surfing Tasmania Media Alert will go out to the press Saturday when a location is announced, whilst Surfing Tasmania’s social media pages will alert competitors and spectators.
