CLIFTON BEACH/TASMANIA (Tuesday 13th December,2022): On January 14th Clifton Beach will play host to the 2023 Women in Waves Day with fun in the sun number one on the agenda thanks to event partner the Healthy Tasmania Fund through the Tasmanian Government.
Seven-Time World Champion and Surfing Australia Chair Layne Beachley will host the day and can’t wait to hang out with program participants.
“Women in Waves is a day for all girls and women who want to experience a day at the beach and in the surf. It’s all about having fun, building confidence, learning how to surf, improving that level of surfing while making new friends in a relaxed and supportive environment,” said Layne.
Whether you’re new to surfing and want to tick it off your bucket list, looking for something to be part of as mother and daughter, or want to target a specific area of your surfing you’d like to improve steered towards competition, you can expect a day packed with waves and plenty of stoke!
Event Schedule:
- 8.30am Registration
- 9.15am Welcome and Event Briefing
- 9.30am Yoga session
- 10.30am Surfing – 2 groups running concurrently
- Surfing with Layne Beachley
- Coaching from Female Surf Coaches
- 12pm Healthy Lunch and refreshments available
- 1pm Guest Speaker – Layne Beachley and Panel Guests
- 2pm Day concludes and mingle
- Refreshments offered at Clifton Beach SLSC

What better way to start the day than a Yoga session from a local teacher. Then you’ll be given the chance to find out where you are at with your surfing, and if there’s something specific you want to work on. If you’re new to surfing, you’ll be taken through the fundamentals including how to stand-up, catch waves and the all-important safety aspects of surfing. We welcome girls and women (all types) of all ages and abilities to come along and celebrate the beach way of life.

What you’ll Need To Bring:
Surfing equipment will be available to hire on the day, but if you have your own board and wetsuit, feel free to bring it with you. In addition, you’ll need:
- Yoga mat
- Towel
- Swimsuit or bikini to wear under your wetsuit
- Drinking water and snacks
- Sunscreen
- Weather and yoga appropriate clothing
