WOOLIES SURFER GROMS SCORE IN TASSIE

Published on 03/11/2021

The Woolworths Surfer Groms Comp conducted by Surfing Tasmania scored great conditions at Clifton Beach yesterday with this popular annual national series for under 8 – 16 surfers. The young groms enjoyed the best waves and conditions after event organisers decided on the south Clifton ‘super bank’ which offered ideal left and right breaking waves  for the excited competitors.

Several new stars emerged from the event offering STAS coaches optimism for the future with them being listed for inclusion in the STAS development program.

Park Beach standout Cowan Duncan use his great all- round skills on his backhand to take out the U16 and U14 Boys double from Jessie Fleming and Mavin Freeman respectively. Clifton local Poppy Woodberry used her local knowledge to take out the U16 Girls from friend Sienna Lawrence. Newcomer Chelsea Fenton showed her talents taking out the U14 Girls.

Chelsea and Cowan won invitations to the Woolworths HPC Camps at Surfing Australia’s High Performance Centre in Casuarina in northern NSW.

The PICS Star Performer Awards went to Poppy Woodberry and Marvin Freeman.

Sienna Lawrence and Findlay Child were awarded the Woolworths Pick Fresh Awards.

Clifton grom Matilda Heddle took out the U12 Girls from little Marli Hassett the U10 Girls.

South Arm rising star Marvin Freeman use his experience and attacking style to take out the U12 Boys from Tully Woodberry.

A big thanks to STAS officials, Head Judge Jo Goldfinch and event volunteers/parents, SABR for catering, Christian Surfers for beach games and Jono Mereszka for coaching/mentoring all contributing for the great day at Clifton Beach.
