#woolworths BRUNY ISLAND JUNIOR- STATE TITLES Rd. 2.
JUNIORS SHOW THEIR GREAT POTENTIAL WITH STANDOUT PERFORMANCES ACROSS THE WEEKEND.
The state’s top juniors enjoyed variable conditions over the two days of their popular annual long weekend event on the wonderful Bruny Island. Newcomers to competition surfing, Jess Gardner and Sam de Salis of Clifton Beach, Tom Tiemans from Snug and Alex Mead from Scamander demonstrated good skill levels and enthusiasm for the challenges of competitive surfing over the two days at Middle Bay where the surf ranged from 1 to 2 metres Saturday and less than a metre on Sunday.
Standout performances came from winners; Ava Frey in the U18 Girls and Sienna Lawrence U16 Girls. Bruny local Ruby Stokely was a close 2nd in the U18 Girls. Jess Gardner won the U14 Girls.
In the Boys, Cowan Duncan not only came second in the U16 Boys, and second in the U18 Boys but just missed out on making the Open Mens Final where he finished 3rd by less than 1 point.
Not to be outdone, South Arm grom Marvin Freeman won both the U14 and U16 Boys. Both boys have developed mature and powerful styles and are bright prospects over the next few years.
The U18 Boys really put on a great display of power surfing with Clifton Beach’s Toby Lawrence coming out on top with Dodges Ferry’s Cowan Duncan in second and Scamander duo Joe Pugh in third and Alex Mead in 4th.
The juniors received wonderful framed Stu Gibson photographs and Red Herring packs for their efforts in the Round 2 of the #woolworths State Junior Titles for 2022. Thanks to sponsors Websterbsc and SABR.
Thanks to Kim Gibson for water safety.
